Do Whatever He Says

John 2 records the first of Jesus’ signs, which occurred in Cana of Galilee at a wedding feast when the wine ran out. Jesus’ mother, Mary, came to Him for the solution. After His protest, Mary displayed incredible faith in Him, saying to the servants in verse 5, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” There is no better advice for those servants, and there is no better advice for every person for their entire life. Whatever Jesus says, do it. The implication is that whatever Jesus says is not only right but is also the best possible path for you to take forward in your life.
The servants who obeyed Jesus in John 2 were given new wine, which solved the problem they were facing. When they did what Jesus said, the solution arrived. Similarly, in John 9:7, a man who was blind from birth obeyed Jesus by washing in the pool of Siloam, and he saw for the first time in his life. The man was subsequently pressed by Jesus’ enemies about his healing, and he repeatedly answered that his obedience to Jesus’ commands had resulted in his healing.
Even when all signs say obeying Jesus is good and wise, there are people just like the Pharisees, who led their witness in John 9:24, saying, “Give glory to God; we know that [Jesus] is a sinner.” Many seek to damage and degrade the name of Jesus so that they can excuse their disobedience to His commands, when the reality is that if they obeyed His commands, they, too, would find the peace and fellowship that He provides to all who obey Him.
Jesus has spoken the words that proceeded from the mind of His Father in Heaven, and if any person follows them, they will find salvation and fellowship with God forever (John 3:16, 36; 12:50). Whatever He says to you, do it!
