Our gospel meeting with John Haffner is scheduled for October 20-23, dates that are quickly approaching! From Sunday to Wednesday, John will present seven talks to aid Christians in defending the truth of the gospel. The topics range from “Who is going to heaven?” to “What does the Bible say about the New Heavens and New Earth?” Whether or not you have heard lessons presented on these topics in the past, you will benefit from hearing them now. It is always good to refresh your memory about God’s instruction concerning the church, worship, miracles, and all matters concerning eternity.
In 2 Peter 1:12, Peter reflected on his writing to the church, saying, “Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you. I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder…” Some may have been tempted to ignore Peter’s admonishment, thinking they were hearing nothing new. But even to this day, we must listen closely since the opponents of the truth often adjust their deception to find a weakness in our grasp of the truth.
According to 2 Peter 3:18, God’s intention for the church was their continual growth in the grace and knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Their growth would occur through oft-given reminders of things they needed to remember but were prone to forget. There are untaught and unstable people who distort the Scriptures, speaking as though they have divine authority when they do not. We must consistently guard against such people, lest we be carried away by their errors. Let us appreciate this opportunity to refresh the clarity of our spiritual eyes together so that we may see through the many deceptions of the Devil.
