Is There a Pattern?

In the Bible, God has revealed His will for our salvation. He has provided Jesus as payment for our sins and taught us how to receive His grace for our salvation. Beyond that, many wonder if there are any firm, unchanging instructions for Christians as they serve the Lord. Is there a pattern to follow, some set of instructions God has given that shapes what Christianity looks like until the end of time? The short answer is yes.

Passages like Acts 14:23, 1 Corinthians 14:33, 1 Corinthians 16:1, and others show us that God has expectations concerning the organization, teaching, and practices of the church everywhere. God has a pattern for church gatherings and Christians’ spiritual interactions with each other, including distinct expectations from men and women during spiritual activities. Does God have a pattern for the church to follow? Yes, He does.

Even those who oppose the idea that God has a pattern for our spiritual activities still generally promote the idea that God has a pattern for the Christian lifestyle. This should not be an either/or issue, this should be a both/and issue. God has a pattern for spiritual activities, including both the first day of the week gathering and the everyday Christian lifestyle. These are inseparable because one is an extension of the other.

Do you serve God every day? Then worship Him with the saints on Sunday. Do you worship God on Sunday? Then revere Him with your choices every other day. God demands an entirely transformed mind and lifestyle, according to Romans 12:1-2. In the Bible, God has provided a pattern for Christianity, which directs our assembly on Sunday and our lifestyle choices every other day. If we conform to it, we become God’s holy people by His grace. If we reject it, we remain in sin, separated from the God who loves us (John 3:16-21).
