In Matthew 13, Jesus taught a parable about a sower who sowed seed as he traveled. Jesus identified four different types of soil the seed fell on, and three of the four did not produce any lasting growth. In verses 18-23, Jesus informed those closest to Him that the soils symbolized people’s hearts and their response to the word of God. Even though most people will not respond obediently to God’s message, the sower kept right on sowing. Followers of Christ share the news about Jesus whenever they have an opportunity, but that doesn’t mean everyone will listen. In response, God says, “Keep sowing.”

In Matthew 10:34-39, Jesus discussed the fact that His message would divide families, causing some to become enemies of others. Division is not the goal of the gospel, but when one person rejects it and another obeys it, division occurs even within families. It is a tremendous blessing when family members are united in Christ, and a terrible tragedy when even one decides to reject Him and the fellowship He provides. This is the sad situation Jesus presented in Matthew 10.

But even when family and loved ones reject Christ, the sower keeps sowing. Based on Jesus’ command in Matthew 28:18-20 and the example of Acts 8:4, every Christian is a sower. Every Christian shares the good God has done for them through Jesus Christ. Continue spreading the gospel and sharing Jesus with everyone you can. Every soul needs Him, and God is giving you opportunities to reach people for their eternal good each day of your life. The sower did not stop sowing to weep forever over the roadside soil that rejected the seed. Instead, he kept sowing. Keep sowing.
