Rejoice with the Truth!

Updated: Jan 16, 2023

1 Corinthians 13 is a chapter about motivation. In it, Paul discusses love as the only motivation that makes anything a person does worthwhile (1 Cor. 13:1-3). Paul then gives a lengthy description of love, which is the attitude that places a person’s soul as the highest priority. In light of recent events, consider what Paul wrote by inspiration in 1 Corinthians 13:6: “[love] does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth….”

On June 24, 2022, our nation’s highest court took a step toward the truth by overturning the ruling in Roe v. Wade. Since 1973, countless millions of innocent infants have been murdered in the name of women’s rights. Parents and medical professionals have ended those innocent lives for many reasons, but the vast majority were simply for convenience. Callouses have formed over the hearts of the people.

Although this recent decision from our Supreme Court is only a step in the right direction, it is a step that agrees with the truth God has expressed in His Word (Ps. 139:13; Jer. 1:5; Lk. 1:44). Some are afraid to rejoice in this decision, but God’s Word says those who live a life of love must rejoice with the truth. Christians, rejoice with the truth! Do not let your voice be muffled by those who call good evil and evil good (Is. 5:20).

This decision is a restoration of the rights of the unborn. It is just toward them. As you consider your response to what has been done, consider Proverbs 21:15 as well, which says, “The exercise of justice is joy for the righteous, but is terror to the workers of iniquity.” Christians who walk in love – rejoice! Truth and justice have won today, and that is worth rejoicing over.
