The Proverbs are God’s wise advice for all people in every age. In them, God teaches humankind how life works and how to live it successfully. He warns against foolish, lazy habits and promotes diligence, humility, and compassion, among other wise characteristics. There is wisdom and there is foolishness, and every person chooses which of the two they will chase. The fool can go whichever way he desires and reach his goal, but the one who chooses wisdom must go with God. Listen to the words of Proverbs 2:1-6:

My son, if you will receive my words And treasure my commandments within you, Make your ear attentive to wisdom, Incline your heart to understanding; For if you cry for discernment, Lift your voice for understanding; If you seek her as silver And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will discern the fear of the Lord And discover the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

The path to wisdom always leads to God. The path may be roundabout, and it may have twists and turns depending on where a person’s journey begins. However, if they sincerely seek knowledge, understanding, and wisdom, they will arrive at the fear of the Lord. It is the Bible, especially, that provides wisdom and understanding to those who seek it.

Jesus promised in Matthew 7:7-8, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” If you are seeking knowledge, understanding, and wisdom, God is the source of it. Let your search begin by opening His Word and reading what He has written to the world.
