Bits of Wisdom

Updated: Jan 16, 2023

God, in His wisdom, designed the Scriptures to show their reader a true picture of themselves so they can improve their character. There are several books in the Bible that are categorized as "wisdom literature". They provide understanding about the practical side of life and how to live it successfully as well as godly. If you want a better, happier, more successful life, here are some bits of wisdom from God to consider:

  • Proverbs 10:8 – Open your ears, close your mouth. "The wise of heart will receive commands, But a babbling fool will be ruined."

  • Proverbs 11:29 – Be considerate toward your family. "He who troubles his own house will inherit wind, And the foolish will be servant to the wisehearted."

  • Proverbs 14:15 – Do not believe everything you hear. "The naive believes everything, But the sensible man considers his steps."

  • Proverbs 21:20 – Do not spend it just because you have it. "There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise, But a foolish man swallows it up."

  • Proverbs 26:12 – You always have much to learn. "Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him."

  • Proverbs 28:26 – Do not trust your feelings. "He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, But he who walks wisely will be delivered."

  • Proverbs 29:11 – Do not lose your temper over everything. "A fool always loses his temper, But a wise man holds it back."

Here is one final thought to consider; a pairing of two bits of wisdom that complement one another:

  • Ecclesiastes 10:10; Proverbs 27:17 – You will benefit if you find godly friends who will sharpen your mind by their input. "If the axe is dull and he does not sharpen its edge, then he must exert more strength. Wisdom has the advantage of giving success." (Ecc. 10:10) "Iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens another." (Prov. 27:17)

God has much more to say concerning life and how best to live it. Open the Bible and gain from His wisdom!
