The Lord Has Need of You

In Luke 19:29-31, Jesus instructed His disciples to go into a village, find a specific colt, and bring it to Him. If they were asked about what they were doing, they were to speak a simple answer: “The Lord has need of it.” Investigation into this event reveals that a prophecy from Zechariah 9:9 was being fulfilled through Jesus, but that was not how the disciples were told to explain what they were doing. The explanation was “The Lord has need of it.”

Ephesians 2:10 says that God has prepared good works for Christians to do, that we are created by Him in Christ Jesus for the purpose of doing good works. Later, in Ephesians 5:15-17, Paul wrote, “Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” Living life wisely requires that we understand and apply ourselves into the will of God during our life.

Some struggle to figure out what God’s will for them is. If you struggle with this, struggle no longer! If you are not a Christian, God’s will is for you to return to Him in repentance and be saved through Jesus Christ (2 Pet. 3:9; 1 Pet. 3:21). If you are a Christian, God has prepared good works for you to do for the rest of your time on earth. He knows how much time you have left and has set up opportunities for you to do what is good in His sight.

Whether you need to obey the gospel or are a child of God already, the Lord has need of you! Let that truth direct you into His salvation and into the good works God has prepared for you. Seek them out and do them, glorifying God in the process (Matt. 5:16).
