Our Father Provides

The rising costs of groceries, gasoline, and other essential goods are squeezing many families’ finances, and solutions are hard to find. Where can you turn when you feel isolated and hopeless while trying to make ends meet? Payday loans and cash shops provide no long-term benefit; their goal is to place their customers deeper in debt. Instead of turning to people who want to take advantage of your problems, turn to God, who promises to provide for you if you seek Him.

God makes that promise in Matthew 6, where Jesus speaks about the necessities of life: clothing, food, and drink. He made a conditional promise that extends to all people today. Matthew 6:33 records, “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” The promise of God, our Heavenly Father, is that if we honor His rulership over our lives, He will provide our earthly necessities.

We see that promise fulfilled in the early church. In Acts 16:14-15, God provided a place for Paul and his companions to stay with Lydia, who had recently obeyed the gospel. In Acts 18:1-4, God provided an income for Paul through steady, honest work as he continued spreading the gospel. In 2 Thessalonians 3:10-12, Paul instructed Christians to work so that they may eat. That, too, is a picture of God’s providence for them. God’s providential care is seen throughout the New Testament, and He continues to fulfill His promise for all who seek Him and submit to His rulership.

If you are struggling, submission to God is the long-term solution you need. He will provide for you if you submit to His rulership over your life. God’s trustworthiness is without equal. Seek Him, obey Him, and find peace in knowing your Father provides for you.
